The City of London has a long-established policy of protecting open spaces in and around London for the enjoyment of the public. North London Open Spaces Division comprises Queens Park, Highgate Wood, West Ham Park and Hampstead Heath inclusive of Golders Hill Park, all of which have achieved Green Flag & Heritage status, a sign of excellence in providing a high quality public open space.

The City of London’s North London Open Spaces Department are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable person to join a dedicated team dealing with the protection, promotion and management of the Heath. The duties involve carrying out a range of estate management operations, assisting with events and providing, high quality customer care and uniformed patrols.

The successful candidate will assist the Senior Ranger to maintain, protect and conserve Golders Hill Park and Hampstead Heath Extension to high standards, assist with the sites’ management plan and be the on-site contact in the absence of more senior members of staff. Undertake inspection records and contribute to the site management plan and work programme, supervising the work of contractors and volunteers. Provide a visible and professional service that engages effectively with the public across Golders Hill Park, supporting North London Open Spaces and Natural Environment’s aspirations to be widely recognised for its high quality and inclusive services.

The role includes team leading responsibilities for the team as you undertake and deliver your duties alongside members of the team in a highly professional manner. Supporting events and entertainment across the department. Leading on annual sports maintenance renovations and implementation of sports pitches on an annual basis as well as tractor-based grass-cutting. Will ideally have a significant relevant experience working in open spaces maintenance including front line customer care and certification in the safe operation of relevant machinery such as tractor driving, strimmers, ride-on mowers and a range of other machinery and hand tools.

A full driving licence, good written and verbal communication skills, competency in a wide range of practical skills both for the open spaces and in the office working with a range of Microsoft software such as Word and Excel and a commitment to Continuous Professional Development are compulsory.
