Sports Grounds Management / Maintenance

City of Peterborough Sports Club (CoPSC) is the largest multi sports club in the area and is home to five of the most premier sports clubs in the city, offering Bowls, Cricket (Peterborough Town Cricket Club), Hockey, Squash / Racquetball and Tennis with over 1000 members. We offer some of the finest facilities (for ECB Northants Premier cricket, County Bowls, and National League Hockey) in the East of England and host a number of top sporting competitions and matches including minor counties and 2nd XI county cricket. We are a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC).

We are currently looking for an experienced Groundsperson to be accountable and responsible for a cricket square, cricket outfield, bowls green, grass tennis courts and a sand dressed astroturf hockey pitch within our site and to ensure they meet all standards required by the club and each sport’s governing body.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the safe and effective operation of all groundskeeping equipment, including lawnmowers, tractors, and other machinery. 
  • Implement and maintain a comprehensive grounds maintenance plan, including fertilization, pest control, end-of-season renovation and irrigation strategies. 
  • Monitor and address any issues with sports facilities promptly and safely. 
  • Prepare the annual budget requests for repairs, maintenance and grounds preparation.
  • Coordinate the negotiation, purchase, storage and control of all consumable materials and services in a cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure all groundskeeping activities are carried out in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all relevant safety regulations and procedures. 
  • Carry out repairs and renovations to sports facilities as needed during winter periods. 
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of and ensure compliance with all relevant National and Local current legislation, ie. Health and safety, first aid, COSHH, environmental management and employment to ensure compliance.
  • Continue to review industry best practice on grounds maintenance techniques, consumable products and technology to ensure the club remains a best-in-class facility

Qualifications (to include one or more)

  • NVQ/SVQ in Sports Turf Maintenance
  • Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Sports Turf or Amenity Horticulture
  • PA1/PA6 pesticide application certification
  • Knowledge of ECB, LTA, Bowls England, and England Hockey specific sports pitch regulations
  • First Aid and H&S training
