Groundsperson
Darlington Cricket & Athletic Club is seeking a Groundsperson with the experience and dedication to prepare and maintain to the highest standards Feethams Cricket Ground in Darlington Co Durham.
Established in 1827 DC&AC are a proud thriving Darlington town centre-based cricket club with a long and established history of fielding both adult and junior teams taking part in league and cup competition across the divisions of the NYSD cricket leagues and selected national competition.
For the right candidate, our Groundsperson vacancy is a fantastic opportunity to join an ambitious cricket club supported by a large playing and non-playing membership and work with a committed management team at a time of strategic change to make a significant contribution to the clubs exciting future.
As such we are seeking an organised, ambitious, flexible individual who will enjoy working within, and be accommodating of, a sporting club environment. Candidates will need to show that they will thrive in a cricket club culture.
Core responsibilities of the grounds-person will include, but would not be limited to:
- Maintain all grounds equipment to a high standard and arrange annual (or as needed as hoc) repair / recondition. In ensuring all equipment is correctly maintained and serviced the Head Groundsperson will assume responsibility for keeping an up to date service log.
- Liaise with the Heads of Cricket, Cricket Captains grounds liaison, section representatives and the broader management committee on both in season and future pitch/square plans as well as offering proactive ideas to improve all playing surfaces used by the DC&AC teams
- Prepare, implement and monitor monthly and annual maintenance programmes to ensure the grounds are well presented. Collect and record data on the playing surfaces
- To work productively with DC&AC member volunteers and or any other part-time grounds staff participating in maintenance tasks
- To estimate the resources required for work projects and to make recommendations on the
best use of playing surfaces, including producing a costed annual ground budget. - Demonstrate and apply a sound understanding of Health & Safety regulations. This will include a specific requirement to ensure the clubs compliance with legislation relating to chemicals and dangerous substances.
- Ensure safe work practices are in place at all times. Follow and comply with the club's Health & Safety policies including all relevant risk assessments
- Maintain regular effective communication with the Cricket sub committee, Captains of Cricket and Grounds liaison

General base requirements:
- At least three years cricketing experience as a grounds-person
- Grounds-person qualification (on the job as well as academic)
- Awareness of health & safety legislation
- Flexible to working hours and prepared to work weekends, bank holidays during the cricket season. Accommodate the club's policy of winter/summer flexitime
- Committed magnanimous and enthusiastic attitude
- Full UK clean driving licence
- ECB DBS clearance
- Must show interest in personal professional improvement and technical development
- Experience in maintaining grounds machinery
- A passion for cricket and while not essential an ability to take part in playing sides / coaching of playing sides would be considered and an asset
Start Date: March 2025
For the correct applicant the club will pay above market rate with hours and pay negotiable within the band identified. The club will also, for the right candidate, consider covering reasonable relocation expenses.
